Schwarzenegger shafts the schools. Again.
$4 extra billion and what does the Governor do?
How about a nice finger-wagging lecture instead of funding education:
"We would love to spend much more money," Schwarzenegger said. "But as governor you have to be kind of like a parent who sits there and says 'no, no, no, you can't do this, you can't do that.' … You have to look at the total picture. His addition to the school budget amounts to $17 per student, according to the LAT. (And, finally, an education frontpage headline from the LAT!).
Phil Angelides once again counters with a great soundbite:
"The governor is very capable of saying 'no, no, no' to children in the classroom," Angelides said. "He apparently has a very hard time saying 'no, no, no' to the wealthiest among us."This is the time to support our state legislators. They need all our support so that they can hold the fort. Eviscerating public school funding is morally wrong and not acceptable. We need good public schools, not a broken public school system.
Here's a nice portal to look for both your assemblyperson and state senator.
The pretty cool California State Legislature site is the parent site. Check it out.
